Combination Snow and Fog

Today's landscape is a reminder
that 'stark' can be beautiful.

Between the Rains, Sunshine

Most of Sunday was a dreary, dispiriting day – chilly and drizzly, with leaden grey skies. Then in the evening the rain stopped, and the sun struggled through fog and mist to bring the day to a glorious close. Never have the garden flowers and wildflowers looked lovelier.

Never have the neighboring farmlands shown off to greater advantage. And has this handsome horse’s coat ever caught the late evening light in quite this way?

We stopped by a friend’s house to catch sunset from his deck high over Lake Michigan. He opened a bottle of good red wine.  It was one of those glorious Up North hours!

Subtle

I'm a sucker for fog and also for old, twisted apple trees. Seeing this orchard tree against the backdrop of fog-softened birches at the edge of a small woods, I couldn't resist the shot. There so little color I considered taking it all out for a black-and-white or sepia tone, but in the end I left it alone. Don't know if it "works," but I like it.

Early Spring Fog over Last of Winter's Ice

This was a telephoto view, looking east, from the M-22 shore on the north side of the village of Suttons Bay on Monday. When I post more than one photograph, I usually save my favorite for last but am putting this one right on top. Other -- in my view, lesser -- shots follow.
