And Then the Sun Came Out!

Not "pristine," but full of our tracks --

Others have also been making tracks.

The sun came out, yes, but dark clouds still hung above the Dos Cabezas Mountains, so that light and dark made striking contrasts.

Snow clings to stubbornly clinging mesquite leaves.

Looking west through hackberry branches to where the sun would soon set --

Peasy does not tire of exploring smells under the snow.

And then I see the moon!

Later, long after sunset, the sky began to clear around the moon. Temperature was our lowest this winter, below 20 degrees F. And so, the snow was still deep and abundant on Wednesday morning, sparkling in the sun. Peasy loved it!

Peasy in Tuesday afternoon snow...

...happy to see the snow still  there for him on Wednesday morning!

Outside and Inside, a Good Start to the Day

Dawn was beautiful 380 degrees around, but this view to the northeast was the most spectacular when I went out with my camera.

Soil can't be too cold yet, because snow that blanketed the ground last night only remained in scattered patches this morning.

Peasy loved his outdoor romp but was also happy indoors with his lion baby doll.

O, Happy Dog Day!

Human beings in these Disunited States are still at each other's throats this week, but dogs are better people.

Buddy was tired from an earlier long walk, Molly yet a bit suspicious of the newcomer, and Peasy his usual little Chicken Little self (running back to mama whenever he got scared), but they managed together pretty well this morning, all three off leashes most of the time. There is nothing like working with -- and just plain being with -- dogs to lift my spirits! Therese (in top photo), of course, is also a good companion on the trail....

Not a Sunrise, Not a Sunset

Sunrise can come on sometimes like a brutal onslaught, so harsh is its glare, impossible to ignore. Sunsets, more peaceful, are often vivid and phantasmagoric, stopping us in our tracks. But just as journalists all rush to one focal spot, ignoring everything else happening at the same time, we may notice only the light and color in the morning east and evening west, forgetting to look at the subtler glory in other directions. This was the sky to the south in Dos Cabezas on January 13, 2021, at sunset.

Let's Go For a Drink, Shall We?

Desert Dog!

This is Peasy.

This is the high desert, Cochise County, AZ.

This prickly place is Peasy's world.

Peasy loves to explore his world.

He loves to run!

He loves STICKS!

Peasy is a happy dog!
