Omena Harbor, Two Views

The light--sky, water and ice--was dramatic in Omena on the first Tuesday of the new year. I couldn't decide which view I liked better, so here's another:

  1. I said 'ooooh' at the first one, but I think I like the second one even better!

  2. Thank you both. I think the sharper contrast, along wit the midground shoreline trees at the right edge make the second photograph more striking, but I also like the serenity of the first, where is so little to be seen.

  3. Oh Pamela, they are stunning. They make the cold and snow and ice seem peaceful. I am blessed by the talents you share!!!

  5. Pam, these are awesome pictures. Would you consider posted both of them on the Sleeping Bear Dunes Visitors Bureau Facebook wall?

  6. Ileana, is that you? I went to the SB FB page but didn't see how to post there. Was hoping to be able to post a link.

  7. I even like the clouds in the second one. They Look Nice as a Pair, from the Peaceful Simplicity of a Close Up, to the Striking Contrast of the Second one, revealing what is off in the Distance. It's almost like saying, "Here's an Introduction." and "Here is more." Nice Job.

  8. I'm glad the order worked for you, Lista. I considered quite a while which one to place in the #1 position and which in #2.

  9. Either Way would have Worked. If the Order would have been the Opposite, I would have Said, "From a Distance, here are your Options." and "Now that you have Chosen, come Closer and get to Know me a little Better." Just Like we Discussed earlier, when you Step Back, you get a Different View with New Information and when you Step Closer, you get a Different View with New Information. This is True in Photography and also in Life.

  10. I Guess I could Add that the Decision Process is more Contrasty and yet, when we Make a Choice and then get Close to Someone, the Familiarity is Peaceful. Interesting how the World Around us Parallels the World within.

  11. Lista, I appreciate the thoughtful way you approach the images. You take your time and listen to your own responses while you take in the image, incorporating it into your vision of life. I am honored.

  12. You Know, in Relation to the Second Order that you Described, my Mind Kept Going even after I had already Left two Comments.

Again, when we are Isolated so that we see Only that which we are Close to, we Miss Part of the Picture and also when we are Reluctant to get Close to anything or anybody, we Miss some of the Detail and thus another Part of the Picture. To Be Balanced, we Need the ability to Both Get close and to also Step Back.

Here is what Came to me Later, though, about Getting Close, for if you were to Walk even Closer to the Object in the Close Up Shot, you would see your Own Reflection in the Water. I don't know if that is what you would want in Photography, but it has a lot to do with Life, for Allowing ourselves to Get Close to others is how we Learn about ourselves.

  13. You have extended the analogy beautifully, Lista. I probably won't take that photograph you describe, but I understand and agree with your comment. Thanks!
