Or maybe ice-caught sun! The contrast between the soft background and the dagger of ice is striking.
I took other shots that showed entire spears, a long row of them, but this partial view of one of the largest icicles seemed to tell the story best.

Thanks. Here's what I'm thinking as I look at the photo this morning: That thick column of ice in the center looks so solid and strong--and yet, it has long since melted!
