Most unusual! Have never seen snow drifts do that. There must be a climatological name for it, maybe based on the combination wind speed/direction-temperature/humidity...resulting in a natural polar Tasty-Freeze. IMO, it should be named after the discoverer, though.
Thought about this photo post when reading about the oddities of the latest harsh winter weather. I think you caught the beginning of a snow roller there.
