Afterglow
Mari Lee Raphael writes: "Happy Super harvest moon, which has not occurred for 20 years, and will likely not reappear until 2029. When a full moon, and the fall equinox happen together, sky-watchers are treated to a sort of 360-degree twilight glow effect that is rarely visible."

Battered But Clinging to Life
As I upload this photo taken two days ago on the beach at Peterson Park, I'm looking out (from the marina parking lot in Northport) at whitecaps and breakers on wind-tossed Grand Traverse Bay. What must Lake Michigan be like this morning? How far did my little six-legged fellow traveler get? All I know for sure is that on Tuesday he or she was clinging fiercely to life.
