Winter Is Easing Out
On March 28, there was still ice out on Lake Michigan. The Big Lake seems clear of ice now, but inland lakes are a different story. Here is Lake Leelanau on Wednesday, April 6.
In the woods, there are other signs. On Monday I finally spotted the very first wild leeks of the season pushing their way through heavy, damp, brown leaf litter. It is the green fuse. Is it my destroyer, as the poet says?
