  2. So much blooming underway while I was there! Basic colors of earth and plants in the vicinity of Phoenix reminded me of the south of France--the dusty, muted palette of Cezanne. Red rocks farther north were very much the American West, but I also thought of Australia (which I've never visited) and wondered about similarities.
