Late Winter Storm: Random Shots

Random they may be in one sense, but it turns out they all revolve around the theme of trees, one of my favorite themes.

Something has gone awry with my cropping capability. At least one of the photographs above could have been improved, in my view, by a little cropping.

Cherry Orchards After Late Winter Storm

These young orchard trees within sight of our house and from the driveway weathered the storm pretty well. Larger, older trees fared worse. On the drive to Northport this morning we saw terrible tree damage in old, established orchards. It will be a lot of work to clean it all up, and many trees will have to be replaced.

March Came In Like a Lion

I couldn't get very far from the house for four days, but there was no need to go far afield to see beautiful sights.

White Negative Effect

An interesting effect is created when the snow melts away except for where tracks were made (compressing the crystals). It makes me think that a ghost walked down the road here instead of old everyday me.

Accented Ripples on Surface of Snow

Wind creates ripples on snow as wind and water do on sand. Ordinarily unobtrusive, these ripples are easier to see in a photograph after applying the Photoshop filter called “Dark Strokes,” accenting the lines as if with coal dust.

Winter Landscape Color

Photoshopping out a lot of the photographic detail makes it easier to appreciate the amount of color (not edited) in the winter landscape.

Here (added in later, by request) is the original, unchanged except for being reduced in size and pixels for faster upload:
